But first...what exactly is Eco-Chic? or Eco-Friendly? How did we choose which designers/boutiques to include here?

In simplest terms, to be Eco-Chic or Earth Friendly is to focus design and manufacturing efforts on materials and practices which are less harmful to the environment and people than conventional methods. The Boutiques and Designers we feature incorporate organic cotton, non-toxic vegetable-based dyes, hemp, bamboo, lyocell, recycled candy wrappers, faux leather, and recycled leather, vintage fabrics, and many more innovative and "friendlier" materials. Most of the boutiques and designers mentioned on Grechen's Closet are entirely socially conscious - from their clothing to how they run their companies. We urge you to consider the entire company & practices when choosing where to buy your eco-friendly products. Yes, we know that most of the larger clothing stores and manufacturers are jumping on the "green" bandwagon, but if it wasn't for some of these smaller designers and boutiques, there wouldn't be a bandwagon to jump on!! They are the innovators in eco-friendly fashion and ethical business practices, if we don't continue to support them, future fashion will be very boring indeed...
